The Club wish to extend our condolences to the Wolfe family. A former trustee of our club, who held a deep interest and passion for all things Garryduff.
John was instrumental in running youth cricket and also the Taverners Cricket. He was also a very valued member of the bowls section and played right up into his 90s. He was secretary of the bowls for many years and was part of many successful cup winning teams.
Younger members will ask what was the Taverners Cricket? To say it was cricket with a focus on the social side is an understatement. It is the stuff of legend and many stories can be told (and shouldn’t be told) of the fun that was had both in Garryduff and on tours away.
Never shy of a few words. Older members will recall many humorous speeches delivered by John and how he outspoke many a guest speaker while introducing them !!!!!
He had a great interest in the club and was ultimately appointed as a trustee of the club by The Bishop.
He was however, primarily a Rugby Man. A founding member of Skibbereen R.F.C and well known in referring circles. Nonetheless he encouraged and guided anyone in whatever path they decided to pursue. He had a genuine interest in listening to people's stories and was very much a people person.
He never believed in just being a member of any organisation he was a part of. He was well prepared to do the graft work needed to help out and run things. He was a very diligent man and always believed in doing things right and proper. These are traits that he has passed on and encouraged in his family.
A multi faceted man who will be missed by all who knew him but most especially by his loving family.
The club passes its sympathies to his Wife Jean, sons Ian, Alan and Johnny and to the wider family.
He had a good innings.
