Outdoor Bowls 2025 Summer Season Draws to a Close

Outdoor Bowls 2025 Summer Season Draws to a Close

David Wolfe21 Sep - 18:11

Outdoor Bowls Section finished their Summer season on Sat 20th Sept with Captain's Prize Day followed by the AGM.

2025 Captain Eamonn Stroker and his wife Gertrude Stroker hosted the annual Captain's Prize Day for the bowls members last Saturday. The weather played ball and a terrific afternoon's bowling was had. The challenging format devised by Eamonn initially had all the members questioning their maths abilities at the start but members quickly adapted to the fun format and learned to count again.

The AGM followed and it was good to recap on what has been a fantastic season of outdoor bowls and thinking about next summer. Thanks to Club President Shane Treacy for chairing. David Hennessy was elected as incoming Captain with John Turner as his Vice Captain. Thanks to all members of the incoming and outgoing committees for all their time and efforts. It must be mentioned that throughout the meeting Ronnie Shellard's name was regularly mentioned in the various contributions. We will miss Ronnie dearly and remember all our bowls friends who have gone before us. May they rest in peace.

Following the AGM the Presentation of Prizes for the Club Competitions was held.

David Hennessy presented Outgoing Captain Eamonn with a token of appreciation from the members for all his work as Captain.

Outgoing Captain Eamonn and wife Gertrude then treated members to a fantastic meal. Huge thanks to Diane Fehily for her work in organising this and to Ronan Sullivan (Barman) who had to deal with the Bowls Members in the Bar afterwards. Members are reminded to bring ID next time for age verification if purchasing from the bar. Thanks also to those who did wash up and returned the function room to normal.

Our Green in Garryduff will now close for winter but we have the Ronnie Shellard trophy, Winter League and Interpros to look forward to. Good Luck to all bowlers as indoor bowls also starts up soon.
