ICICYMA (Garryduff Sports Club) are saddened to have learned over the weekend of the passing of Past President and Club Stalwart: Ronnie Shellard on the 22nd August 2025.
A proud clubman, Ronnie served in many roles during his decades as a life member of our association. He held nearly every committee role at some stage in the bowls sections and also sat on the General Club Management Committee for many years.
He ultimately served as overall Club President for 2 terms in the 1984/1985 season and again in 1989/1990. Ronnie will also be remembered for his time as volunteer barman and helping out the club in many many ways.
It was in the sport of bowls that he cemented his place as one of the club greats. The engraving R.Shellard is prolific on all of the Club Bowls Cups. There are many stories including how he played many a deciding shot to win a game for the club, with some winning shots even being played in the pitch dark.
Nationally, he won numerous National Junior Titles and was the BLI Champion of Champions Competition in 1977.
His greatest honour was being elected BLI President in 2014. The first Cork man to do so.
This is but a short resume of his many club sporting achievements. The list is long and dates can be debated over, however his qualities as a good friend to all and as a proud and dedicated family man can not be questioned.
The club extends its deepest sympathies to his beloved wife Betty, Children: Keith, Stuart, Audrey and Jean and to his wider family circle.
He will be remembered fondly.
